5: Dementia Experience

Caregiver VR offers state of the art dementia simulation environment that allows you as an instructor, to simulate some of the most common symptoms of dementia, alongside other common symptoms of old age.

These symptoms are:

  • Popcorn Hands: Tremors that come with old age

  • Intrusive Thoughts: Obsessive, distracting thoughts experienced by those with Dementia and Alzheimer’s

  • Sound Hallucinations: Auditory hallucinations, experienced by those with Dementia and Alzheimer’s.

  • World Swapping: Visual hallucination of going back to an older home, experienced by those with Dementia and Alzheimer’s.

  • Tunnel Vision: Peripheral vision loss that comes with old age.

Asymmetrical Experience

The Dementia Experience has been build with asymmetry in mind, what this means is that those roleplaying as the resident will experience the simulation different from those roleplaying as caregivers. This not only allows role-players to experience the symptoms above, but also allows them to demonstrate and practice competencies in caring for patients with dementia.
